La Cicatrice Intérieure (Philippe Garrel, 1972)

EDIT 7 December 2008: a note to João Gago who commented that after having had acquired all the parts he could not open the file: first of all, apologies for my belated answer. I just downloaded all the parts again myself and I didn't have a problem opening the video. I'm afraid I can't help you on this one, maybe there's a missing codec, or maybe one part has not been downloaded properly. Concerning the latter, you could check if the first 10 files have the same file size (the last one should be about 87,9 MB). Please tell me if you could sort things out.

"This is a highly experimental French film consisting of no more than 23 camera shots, total. It resembles nothing so much as one of Warhol's earlier films, except that it is more episodic. Nico of the Velvet Underground portrays a different woman in each of the episodes. The first three concern her "rescues" from Death Valley, Egypt and Iceland by a young man to whom she eventually says "stay away from me." Following that, she recites from various texts in German, French and English, makes various gnomic observations and encounters various men in various guises. All the men are played either by director Philippe Garrel or Pierre Clementi." (source)

Huge thanks to lurker for recommending this as a reaction to my post on Godard's "Weekend" & the person who distributed this dvdrip via torrent. It's a japanese hardsub (Garrel actually prohibited the addition of subtitles) while the film itself would require the knowledge of English, French and German (featuring songs from Nico's album "Desertshore"), hiiieh. If you're not too dazzled by the surrealist visuals, that is. Oh, and it's censored (naked men, you know?).

Thanks Jessica, you did it !
It would have been impossible for me to get it through bittorent but now I can have it, thanks to you.
I saw it a few years ago in a theater but I'll be happy to be able to watch it every day.
Garrel did around 30 movie from the sixties up to now, ranging from the very experimental to the almost mainstream (but still good). A few of them have been issued as DVDs.
He had a film in competition in Cannes this year which got bad reviews. Therefore it should be good. It's out in autumn.

thanks for this one, i streamed it from my computer to my ps3 and watched it on my 51" TV and it looked pretty good. I wonder if Gus Van Zandt was inspired by this film when he made Gerry because they have very similar elements.

Jessica: I thanked you earlier for your posting of the Paul Celan and all of the Rallizes denudes and for the general excellence of your blog ...... I lamented at the time that I was afraid the downloading of "La Cicatrice" would be beyond me (I'd never DL'ed a film before --- I didn't know it would be so easy!) Thank you very much for this! More and more of Garrel is available on DVD, and I like his later stuff very much, but have had only rare opportunities to see his early features. Thank you very much.

Now if you, or some enterprising soul with a big hard drive can find a way to grab Rivette's complete 12-hour "Out one: Noli me tangere" from the torrent that's out there and post it where us torrent-challenged users can find it ......

I most appreciate the time and thought you afforded by leaving comments on some of the things I posted; they are extremely flattering, and on the subject of that Rivette film you were speaking about: I've just added that to my torrent client and it's going at a fine speed so far, so expect me to post this in the very near future. Again, it is important to note that credit most of all belongs to the person who originally digitalised and distributed those rare productions.

Oh, I just now saw that Jean-Pierre Léaud is in this. Now I'm a little bit more excited to watch it since I had a bit of a thing for him in "Weekend," haha!

If you post "Out one" it will be the biggest coup in internet filmdom. I was lucky to see all 12 hours of it over a two day period in an actual movie theater a few years ago. Why it still has not appeared on DVD after all the publicity about its belated (25 years!) official public debut is beyond me ... it has been called the "Holy Grail" of cinephilia. I saw this on the torrents and couldn't believe my eyes. I know that there are copies taken from a (1990s?) showing on German Television floating around --- maybe this is where they are from?

Is the "Out one: Noli me tangere" in the torrent really the 12-hour version? Even if it is the 4 and a half hour version, properly titled "Out one: Spectre", it will be a great event to post it here. Both versions are great ... in the "short" version, Rivette used an entirely different series of shots from the "long" version to tell a similar but somehow different story. Neither version is available in any way, shape or form, so you and the torrent poster are doing a great public service

Thanks for our efforts and yes, I am enjoying E. Radigue and I have ordered her CDs as well --- just as testimony from one blog-visitor, I do, when possible buy the physical items of music I have discovered only because a blog has alerted me to them. I don't understand the controversy about this ... it is as if you have heard the music at a friend's house, that you were unaware of, or were not sure about, and then want to own. It's very simple.

Absolutely loved it!
Been having the Desertshore album for many years and have always been intrigued by the enigmatic cover. Noticed it was from a film and then found this blog. Nico have such strong presence.

Wow, I've been wanting to see this film for 20 years. My heart skipped a beat when I just stumbled on this blog. Long time Nico fan. I have scoured the earth for a laserdisc or bootleg VHS, DVDr for ages, but alas...nothing. Seems I'm getting an error on the downloaded files. I downloaded Part 1 and during extraction I received the following error. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Here's the error: "Archive file 'La Cicatrice Interieure.avi' CRC integrity test failed. The archived file is corrupted and can not be opened". Any help woul be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
